What does a ceremony involve?

What if I don't go to Church?

Many people would love to have a minister take their wedding ceremony, but don’t go to Church. Gretna ministers are here to help, providing a Christian ceremony for people from all backgrounds, in a way that’s not alien or uncomfortable. In fact, most people we serve don’t have a Church back home, but we’re delighted to give you a heartfelt, non-judgemental personal service to remember your whole lives. Our desire is that your marriage gets off to a great start!

And the process?

There’s a little more to arrange to get married by a minister in Scotland, rather than a registrar, but the flexibility and personal nature of it is well worthwhile. The first thing is to apply to the Registration Office with an M10 form (download here). Submit that not less than 29 days and not more than 3 months before your wedding date. You collect your Marriage Schedule from them before your wedding and your minister will make sure everything is signed and witnessed correctly. You then return it within 3 days.

What do I do next?

If you’re booking your wedding through an agency or wedding planners at a venue, just say you’d like to have a ‘religious celebrant’, rather than a registrar to conduct your marriage ceremony. Each agency/venue have a list of celebrants they know and regularly work with. They may also give you some guidance over which minister would best suit your needs and preferences.
If you’re planning your own wedding, we can supply a list of ministers and some descriptions of who they are.

Thankyou Letters

I would just like to thank you for the wonderful wedding service you conducted yesterday for my daughter, Katie, and her new husband Damien.
You were so sympathetic and accommodating of all the family, which made the service memorable and one that we will all hold close to our hearts for always.
Sometimes it takes just one person to make your day, but yesterday you achieved that for so many of us and I sincerely thank you.
You will remain in my heart for many years to come. May God go with you and may you inspire many more.
Katie’s Mum

My wife and I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the fantastic job you did at our wedding. You pitched it perfectly between serious and fun. From the moment I met you, you put me at ease and Kathy said the same. Nice one. I thought the Corinthians 13 quote was brilliant and you nearly made me cry! Also thanks for the prayer for us at the end which was lovely. We have a great photo of you with us so we will never forget you!
So to round up thankyou once more and God Bless You.
With love from Graham and Kathleen
